Fourteen years ago today, there was this baby--and he was born.
And he was special--for a lot of reasons, reasons that are still becoming apparent today.
He scared his mom straight away...trying to break free too early from his tidy cocoon.
And when I brought him home, he didn't even weigh seven pounds. (now he looks like a high school sophomore, has to shave his FACE and wears a size 13 shoe...we won't discuss his grocery bill, ahem...)
And when I brought him home, his brother looked so big--for the very first time in his five years.
And I cried--for a lot of reasons. Holding this baby close to my breast, I selfishly wept for his lost sister, for me, for all of us.
And gratefully tomorrow still came, and he grew and blessed his family in innumerable ways.
He is a boy in man size--with a heart bigger than the sun. Kind and loving, protective and confident.
Fourteen years ago today, he was born in the fiercest kind of love and today grows in it still.
Seems to me to be a pretty good fertilizer.
