"Where tillage begins, other arts follow. The farmers, therefore, are the founders of human civilization."
~Daniel Webster, lawyer and politician. Jan 13, 1840

interesting quote to think upon. :)

Seven days.
...sigh...
Why am I doing this again?:roll:
Oh right...cause Sheila said.

I backspaced over it all.
it involved my father crying.

The first thing I thought of when I saw this was the movie "Never let me go"
But this is one of my most recent favorites on dA <3

I'm not sure why, but I find this one unsettling... To me, the 'rule of thirds' composition and the almost equally-spaced hay bales give off a strange, almost unnatural impression, which seems at odds with the natural setting and pleasant lighting. The increasing darkness towards the lower part of the picture, as well as the compositional imbalance caused by the tree on the right, which also blocks out the sun, also seems to create tension and a sense of foreboding. (Or is that just me being determined to see the negative side of everything? It's a great photo, in any case!)

Humm...well, you would know better than I about you being determined to see the negative side of 'everything.'
I will tell you one thing...I'm not happy, completely, with the photo. It is way too heavy on the right side. And the tree, well the tree, lol...(part of it is artificially there. :D) The sun blew it all out, the top...so I 'rebuilt' it in photoshop. Took me a bit of time, but I liked it better this way. :D

Any time a photo creates feeling in someone, that is a success, Chris. So. Thank you!!! I appreciate your great comment and being able to view the photo through you eyes.

mmhumm...I was too.
Round bales are much better than square. Square means more work, lol. :D
(I threw and stacked a few in my younger days. ;p)
The quote I got from Greenfield Village, a part of the museum complex at The Henry Ford. I would STRONGLY recommend this as a vacation spot for people with kids. hint hint. :)
So much history done so right.
I'm tellin' ya...they would love it.

Ahhh yes,...square bales were my cure to underage drinking...my very first hangover, and my mom looks at me and says "Since you weren't out drinking last night, you won't mind helping the neighbors throw hay up in the loft this morning!" We still put up a couple 1000 every year along with the rounds. I help my dad and uncle with it, it gives the cows an extra treat and works out for the ones we have to hand feed or give special care to.

...mmhumm...I never did underaged drinking (I was 'raised'...not well, I might add, by an alcoholic mother. *shudder*) but I know what you are talking about. Hot sweaty work...but if you had the right people, it was fun. And no mice or bats, lol.

Aww...thanks! This one isn't perfect though. It is too 'heavy' on the right side. I planned on doing a pano, but notoriously I do not use a tripod. :D (laaaazy me) When you don't use a tripod it is easy to screw horizons up. Duh. Anyway...sigh...I went back a few foggy days later (a week or so) and the farmer had put his bales away. Darn his efficiency!! :D

It was a grand morning.
